#1 The ability to work remotely from home with a strong work ethic.
Someone who can be self motivated to find what they need and put it to
use, without asking a senior developer for the answer each and every
time.
#2 most important trait - Ability to research your own solutions. If you
don't know something, you need to use available resources and learn it
quickly. By available resources, I mean to use things like the internet,
books, Usenet. Our software developers don't like to be bothered as
they're already busy enough.
#3 important trait - Ability to learn quickly. AbleCommerce has and
always will be working with new technologies on a continued basis.
Keeping the above thing in mind, the less important other requirements
are as follows.
* Understanding of SQL concepts - ability to write and work with SQL
queries.
* knowledge of HTML, _javascript_
* XML - what it is, what it looks like, how it is sometimes used, etc.
* knowledge of one or more of the following: asp, vb, cfmx
* ability to troubleshoot problems / debug code
* communication skills / customer service savvy
* familiarity with Visual Studio.NET
* familiarity with source control / vss
* bonus points: jsp, java
