Sr. Unix Sys Administrator

Job Duties for System Administrator Position The LHNCBC requires the services of a system administrator who will be responsible for the efficient daily operation, including maintenance and administration, of UNIX and Windows-based computer systems. The position reports to the Cognitive Science Branch (CgSB) administrator and has the following duties: - Installing, upgrading, removing, and administrating hardware, software, and Windows and Solaris operating systems. - Configure and maintain UNIX and Windows system integration; Network File Sharing between UNIX and Windows environments. - Building software distributions for Windows and Solaris operating systems. - Troubleshooting, installing and configuring software applications such as Microsoft SQL, MySQL, Oracle database server, Apache/Tomcat Web server, Microsoft IIS. - Create and maintain technical websites using HTML. - Setup, configure, and maintain Sun disk array, Dell NAS, and NetApp Filer by using Veritas Volume Manager, Dell NAS Web base administration, and NetApp Ontap operating system respectively. - Oversee Networker and BackupExec backup servers and performing system backups and archival. - Assisting users with Windows and UNIX systems operations and software. - Administering user accounts, printers and print server. - Monitoring system logs, maintaining system security. - Performing system security audits. - Documenting and troubleshooting system problems. - Shell/script/Perl/Expect programming for systems when necessary. - Develop project plans and status reports for senior management. Assist Enterprise Operation Manager to participate in enterprise project deployment or resolve operational issues. - Establish system parameters and formats, ensure hardware/software compatibility and coordinates and/or modify projects requirement in terms of existing and projected computer capacity and capabilities. - Evaluating, testing and validating new releases and variations of system configurations; analyzing and adjusting UNIX and Windows servers for performance and efficient operations; maintaining a high level of optimization on an ongoing basis; and developing and implementing system monitoring procedures. Required Skills: - B.S degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline and at least five years of UNIX and Windows systems administration experience. - Thorough demonstrated knowledge of UNIX and Windows server administration capabilities. - Demonstrated expertise in SUN Solaris and SUN hardware. - Strong working knowledge of Tape Libraries, SAN Storage Solutions, such as NAS appliances such as NETAPPs and Dell are required. - Proficiency in UNIX and Windows system security, DNS, NFS, NIS, Active Directory, LDAP. - Knowledgeable in LAN, WAN, and TCP/IP, SMTP, POP/IMAP protocols. - Experience in writing shell scripts and in Perl/Expect. - Experience in administering systems in a networked environment. - Excellent team skills, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. - Ability to both take direction and work in a self-directed environment; to effectively interacts with all levels of staff and external contacts; and ability to work, as an effective team member is essential. - Effective writing and oral communications skills and ability to provide appropriate status reports. - Requires excellent organization and time management skills and flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and shift priorities simultaneously. Desired Skills: - Experience in LINUX system administration. - Database administration skill in Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL. - Experience in writing Macromedia ColdFusion and C/JAVA programs. - Experience in setup, configure and maintain Resonate load balance software. - Experience in setup, configure and maintain Sun One LDAP server and Identity server. - Experience in setup and maintenance of firewall, and Cisco network switches. - Certification in Sun and Microsoft MCSE system administration.
