Required Skills: Recent Computer Science (or related field) graduate, plus 2 
years of relevant experience. Experience in a variety of web design, 
development, and production roles with an emphasis on database-driven, 
interactive Web applications. Some production experience in web page 
application design, development, and implementation using a variety of 
programming languages and applications: HTML/XHTML, ColdFusion/Fusebox, SQL, 
Javascript, and Java/JSP, IIS, Apache, MS SQL Server, MySQL, Adobe/Macromedia 
Flash, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop/Imageready, MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint. 
An understanding of current web technologies (e.g. multi-platform, 
multi-browser behavior), standards, and usability and interactivity principles. 
Excellent communication skills, follow-through, and attention to details. 
Ability to follow directions, work as an independent self-starter, and be a 
productive contributor to a team. 

Note: Candidates must be prepared to provide code samples, database schema, 
requirements documents, web strategies, schedules, plans, and demonstrate 
functioning web projects (can be school projects).

Desired Skills: Current applicable certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified 
Solutions/Applications Developer or Engineer; ColdFusion, Java, PERL, or other 
programming language certifications). Familiarity with HR applications such as 
Oracle HRMS or PeopleSoft. Experience with HR data management. Experience in 
data architecture/integrated systems design; applications based on Oracle 
PL/SQL; Data extracts with Java interfaces. Familiarity with CSS, XML, PERL, 
Subversion, MS Access; LDAP, SSH, SFTP, SSL, AFS technologies a plus

Will: Co-implement HR Web applications from the HRIS development plan; Develop 
functional and technical requirements documents, schedules and test plans; 
design and implement Web applications based on customer requirements; Create 
Web applications that integrate effective design with technical functionality 
with respect to existing technical capabilities and constraints; Implement 
designs using the best available software tools and techniques; Ensure that HR 
sites maintain a consistent look-and-feel and information architecture; Develop 
web-based reporting tools (enabling some customer self-service 
metrics/reports); Conduct multi-platform, multi-browser testing on 
applications, and document test results.

Responsible for adhering to configuration management, system security, data 
integrity, back-up and recovery plans/activities; Will assist in maintaining 
cognizance over servers and monitor sites for acceptable performance and user 
accessibility. Will assist in performing system tests to determine 
connectivity, performance tuning.  

As part of the Human Resources Web development team the incumbent will 
interface with internal and external customers; Maintain positive communication 
and address all concerns/questions with a timely and appropriate response; Work 
to ensure the Human Resources internal and external Web sites meet or exceed 
JPL requirements, as well as high quality design and industry-recognized 
functionality, compatibility, accessibility standards, usability, interactive 
design, and best practices; Maintain an internal and external technical network 
including IT security, Office of Communications and Education/Media Relations, 
Institutional Computing & Information Services, and other related organizations 
to ensure advance notification of upcoming requirements, compliance with 
existing internal requirements, and obtain all required approvals on all 
applicable web sites; Participate as a team member of HRIS to develop and 
promote standards and recommendations for Web design and technical development.
