If one goes to this page and looks at 'Take or Schedule an Exam' for the 'Associate Programmer Analyst' (APA) exam, testing is currently open for Nov 20th in Sacramento. If one gets into this test and passes one is then eligible for any State of California APA position. My department currently has two ColdFusion APA positions available for immediate hire to anybody on the APA list with the desired skills. If you miss this opportunity, future tests are scheduled on a regular basis. Good ColdFusion developers should be able to utilize the built in <cfhttp...> capabilities to monitor the announcement page to be immediately notified when future dates are announced.
