There is more to programming than writing code.

If the bug no longer exists, Vince did his job. If we didn't charge for
the time it takes to investigate, we would go broke as programmers. The
way to make this right is if Vince offered to look again if the bug
exposed itself within a certain timeframe. It is unfair to use this
forum to essentially discredit someone's work. This is why we have the
Better Business Bureau. If I was Vince and I lost potential clients
because of the email, I would seriously consider getting some legal
consultation especially if the accusations were false. Giving an
unsolicited reference on someone's work in this way is both unethical
and unfair. I am sure that those hiring for telecommute work are
intelligent enough to ask for references and if not, it's their own
fault they got slighted.

Have a wonderful day everyone!!!

I'm probly going to get flamed for this but I feel it is necessary to
expose the fact that this guy Vince is not always on the up and up and
anyone considering hiring better check with some of his recent clients.
Also consider covering your backside when you make payment and use a
credit card so you can chargeback if your deal goes bad.

After being hired to do some bug fixes by a buddy of mine Vince invoiced
him for 6 hours of work fixing a bug. Now I will admit his work should
have been validated prior to payment but my buddy is a very trusting
person and figured based on Vince's claims about his experience that
working with him should not be a problem. So Vince was paid via check
for his time. Then when he was asked to deliver the code for the bug fix
that he was hired to take care of he started coming up with these
different excuses about the task he was to work on. After it was said
and done Vince never produced one line of code and finally admitted he
was unable to reproduce the bug, so he got paid for "getting familiar
with the code" as he puts it.

So the question is will Vince give back the money or will he honor his
agreement with his client and fix the bug? He is $150 richer for just
looking at some code and doing nothing...
