The Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Sciences at the University of South Carolina is accepting applications for a Systems Programmer I. This position requires a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and 2 years experience in programming, web application design and implementation. Candidate must have website development experience, Microsoft SQL database management experience and the willingness to learn other job specific programs. A working knowledge of Adobe ColdFusion, PHP and Visual Basic is highly preferred. Knowledge of DHTML, CSS, XML, and Javascript is preferred. Knowledge of graphing, statistical, and GIS software is also preferred.
Candidate will serve as the Web Database Programmer for the NOAA National Estuarine Research Reserve System (NERRS) Centralized Data Management Office (CDMO). Will work with a team of data and information management experts to develop and maintain a web-based data archival and information dissemination system in support of the NERRS System-wide Monitoring Program (SWMP). Will also be responsible for providing technical support for the twenty-seven NERR sites around the US and Puerto Rico. Will design and implement front-end web applications for scientific data documentation. Candidate will assist researchers and technicians with data archival functions and metadata development. Will provide project development and production support for web-based applications. Candidate must be able to work under strenuous deadline conditions. Requires some travel. The salary range for this position is $38,299-$43,000 depending on qualifications, with an estimated fill date of July 1, 2008.
