All this talk about security issues is just fine, but it doesn't do much for
me in terms of knowing how to get my server right. I usually learn a lot
from these emails. but this topic is pretty thick with opinion but thin on
specifics.
I've had a RedHat 6.2 server since the middle of last year, worked with
ColdFusion for 2 or 3 years, and been in networking PCs for about 16 years.
I'm no Linux expert, by far, so it sure would be nice to have some links,
direction, instruction, in terms of security. Jesse once had an Allaire
link to an article describing services to turn off for production servers,
which I have used, but it would be nice if there was a regularly updated
'Best Practices' list for ColdFusion-Linux users to follow, which would
detail the steps (step...by...step) to take from default installations of
supported OS's (RedHat 6.2, etc) to where a reasonably secure server should
be. Wouldn't this make sense from a marketing standpoint for a company
trying to sell a product on a specific platform?
I truly appreciate the level of expertise shown by the people involved in
these emails, but there are many levels of users out there. Without some
nuts-n-bolts, how-to information, all I'm getting is another email I have to
delete. (...like this one :)
Thanks.
