All-

As of late, and for the past few months, I have been trying to write
a paper on ColdFusion/Linux performance tuning. I know we ALL need this
paper, and I know all of us have our special brand of hacks and tricks.

My primary motivation for this is to write a giant 'how-to' on how
to start from scratch and build the fastest, and most stable
ColdFusion/Linux machine humanly possible.

With the 2.4.1 kernel finally hitting the streets, a lot of my work
has been negated (after all, who needs 2.2?).

Now, you probably wonder where I am going?

Community. Both Linux, and ColdFusion are about community. That's
what the base is, and that's what we shine in. I don't want to do this paper
by myself, after all, I, although experienced, don't know everything. I am
sure you, the end users, probably know things that I could never dream
about.

So what I propose is this. At this time, I am compiling information
for this paper, and would like your tips, tricks, suggestions and hacks.
Shell scripts, /proc tweaks, apache tweaks, code tweaks, heck, anything to
squeeze that extra .000000000003 milliseconds of speed out of there. For
instance, some of the topics are:

Kernel level tuning at compile time / Kernel compilation
/proc tuning after the fact
Journaling File systems
Apache module level tuning
Apache Compilation and Source tweaks
Sysinit level tweaks (turning off kudzu and other unneeded services)

I also want this to be a living document. This means I can update it
daily, or weekly, or whenever new information comes out. And I want this to
be community y-centric kind of like the Spectra 'livedocs' where user
contributions can be made.

Let me know if this interests you, or if you have anything to
contribute. Once this document is 'complete' I would be posting it on
Allaire.Com in the Linux technology reference page, and also sending it out
across the multiple user-centric lists.

It's just an idea!
