Can't help with the 1st problem but I can provide advice on the 2nd, I was running CF4.5 and the mail was sent to a mail server on another machine for delivery. I seemed to get (pretty much) every other mail rejected, but they were rejected randomly. I got round this by setting up sendmail on my machine (firewalled of course), pointing coldfusion at it and getting sendmail to forward on the to external mail server.
