Just copying it won't cause a 404, something else must have changed. Try it
in lowercase and uppercase? You can check your apache access file to see
exactly what file the web server is trying to fetch and is failing on. One
of the CF logs should have the not found error, too, that might help.

Try starting over.

Remove the stuff you've copied.

Try to login to the administrator and change the mapping to where you are
going to relocate CFIDE to. If nothing else you should be able to change
the mapping by editing the registry file directly (stop CF while you do this).

move the CFIDE directory to this new location (i.e. 'mv cfide /opt/coldfusion')

Add an apache alias so /CFIDE/ points to the new location of the cfide
directory.
Alias /CFIDE/ /opt/coldfusion/cfide
Alias /cfide/ /opt/coldfusion/cfide

I always to two aliases so you can get to it in upper or lower case.

Restart apache.

That should do it. If nothing else you could reinstall CF and tell it to
put the CFDOCS stuff somewhere else (just tell it a different document root
when it asks). Then you will need to setup an apache alias to access it.
Reinstalling CF should still preserve your custom settings from the CF
administrator.
