Are you running MySQL 4.x, by chance?  The drivers shipped with CFMX are for
3.23, and while the MySQL site says 3.23 clients should be able to connect
to 4.x servers, that might not be the case with the drivers.

Someone mentioned that CFMX is not supported on RedHat 8, but that's not the
problem.  I have two servers running exactly that config, and both interface
with MySQL 3.23 without any issues.
