Dave,

When you type "openssl version" are you specifying the path to the new openssl
that was installed? My guess is that it installed either in /usr/local/openssl
or /usr/local, but since RedHat probably puts their openssl in something like
/usr/bin or /bin/ it'll probably use that one as default when you just type
"openssl version" without specifying an explicit path.

Are you sure that you actually need to "make install" OpenSSL for Apache 2? I've
been spending a lot of time configuring (with Apache 1.3, granted) and I believe
all I needed to do was configure and make OpenSSL and then point Apache to that
source directory, not the install directory (which you'd get after doing a "make
install" with OpenSSL). I know the new "Definite Guide to Apache" has details on
making SSL for Apache 2 so if you a Safari subscription you can check that out
too.

Any other questions, or if you want me to dig up a more detailed answer, let me
know.
