I don't know how many people here have built their own linux distro instead of
depending on RedHat/Mandrake/etc... (if I've just piqued your interest, check out:
http://www.linuxfromscratch.com/ ;-) but I wanted to run a copy of ColdFusion on my
laptop (a Fujitsu Lifebook P2120 - 933Mhz Transmeta Crusoe) and IMNSHO, with 1) CFMX
being such a resource hog, and 2) CFMX no longer natively supporting PostgreSQL, I
wanted something a little lighter; ColdFusion 4.5 was just the ticket.

To get CF4.5 (and... I'd assume 5) running on LFS, make sure you have GCC 2.95 and the
associated C/C++ libraries compiled & installed; as the mod_coldfusion.so *will not
compile correctly* with GCC3.2 and/or the associated libraries.

Another tidbit: After running `make install` on GCC 2.95, make sure you run an
`ldconfig` to update the libraries so they can be found. If apxs (the Apache
mod_foobar.so compiler utility) still complains about missing libraries, you may need
to go make a symbolic link to the names that apxs is expecting. (I believe the gcc
library that's needed is named "libstdc++-2-libc6.1-1-2.9.0.so", but methinks apxs
wants "libstdc++-2-libc6.1-1.so.2"...)

Also, I'm using Apache 1.3.20 with it - using the link posted previously, you may be
able to use Apache 2, but 1.3.20 works fine for me...

((BTW, if you want to get CF4.5 & Apache 1.3.20 running on RedHat 9, you'll need to do
this anyway, as GCC 2.95 doesn't come standard with RedHat, and trying to install it
from RPMs can be problematic; especially if you actually wanna keep GCC3.2... ;-) ))

Anyway, been lurkin' for awhile, thought I'd pipe up now that I actually *know*
something... ;-) HTH,

Roger "Merch" Merchberger
