I've been using AW Stats (http://awstats.sourceforge.net) for about 2 years and I've been very pleased with it.  You can run it as a CGI for real-time stats or have it run as a cron job to output flat HTML files.  It appears to be one of the most active projects on sourceforge and they release an update on a near monthly basis.  If you decide to evaluate it I'm sure we'd be all be interested in how it compares to webalizer.  Best of luck!
