Thankfully I have solved my webservices problem! It turned out to be a simple
overlooked line in my Apache httpd.conf file. I simply changed the line marked
ServerName from linux.local to my IP address.
Although I ended up turning my domain name on, it turns out I didnt have to. The
coldfusion was erroring out because the apache server was calling itself a localhost.
A closer look at my WSDL file showed me that the webservice was assigning its "address
location" to one localhost instead of my domain. The thing that tipped me off was
while directory index browsing in my webbrowser. The bottom of my screen says
"Apache/1.3.28 Server at linux.local Port 80" but Im browsing a URL of
http://www.mydomain.com/someDirectory
I figured the apache server was the problem, and looked for the problem in the
httpd.conf file. Once I changed the ServerName property, saved the file and restarted
apache, the problem dissapears!
Anyway, just wanted to recount that webservices do not need name resolution in order
to work in coldfusion! I turned DNS back off and the webservices still work fine. It
was just me the big dummy that forgot to make one crucial edit to the httpd.conf file!
Dave Watts, thank you for your suggesstions on DNS and hostNames and such....without
them I would have taken much longer for me to figure it all out! I appreciate the time
taken for the answering my emails.
Happy Halloween!
