If I modify the httpd.conf and conf.d entries so that all the CFMX-related configs are in the main part of httpd.conf *before* the first virtualhost, then all virtualhosts, including the first one, can access CFMX just fine. I'm completely puzzled why effectively identical httpd.conf files running on different servers with effectively identical CMFX installs react differently.
