Also if the remote Linux box is running a web application stack (PHP, Perl, J2EE, etc) you could write code that executes the shell script, expose it as a web service and then invoke the web service using ColdFusion. There are definitely security considerations with that approach, though. Doing it via SSH will likely be the most secure.
