They would be very interested. I don't think any of them was able to attend this event. Most people I talked to felt this was a sure thing, so I would expect Studio 5 to be the last version. There was a good bit of discussion surrounding cfObject. First, it was asserted that it just plain doesn't work due to JavaCast() issues. Quite a few people mentioned some work Guy Rish had done regarding this. Second, Robi Sen pointed out that the implementation of the tag made it useless for heavily loaded sites. Robi recommends using CFX instead of cfObject. There was very little talk about Neo, but a new product called Greylock was hinted at. Apparently it is based on Neo and supposed to replace the now abandoned Spectra. Apparently the folks lucky enough to be beta testing Neo also have access to Greylock. I am told from those that have seen it that it has some sweet features. Presentations: I didn't make it to all of the presentations, but the ones I did attend were well done. Steve Nelson gave a talk on Sash. Basically he just went through samples that come with the product. For those of you that haven't seen Sash I encourage you to check it out at IBM aplhaWorks, http://sash.alphaworks.ibm.com/. Dave Watts gave a talk on securing IIS. As we all know IIS (It Isn't Secure) needs quite a bit of work to be secure. Dave pointed out a good number of things people should do when running IIS. Timothy Nettleton gave a talk on CF hosting. Tim works for Host Centric and wrote the COSMOS tool they use to help manage what they claim to be the largest CF hosting farm in the world. He focused on what CF people should know before they host their application. He talked about various coding practices he encouraged his customers to use in order to be more stable. Much to the horror of the gurus in the crowd he suggested some pretty crazy things like wrapping all cfQueries in a cfTranaction and possibly a cfLock. I spoke about using CF on Linux. My talk focused on why MSFT is evil and how Linux will save us all. Seriously though, I pointed out what Linux provided as a platform for CF and compared it to Windows. Charlie Arehart gave a talk on using Java with CF. It was by far the best presentation at the conference in terms of delivery. He helped show that CF with Java is an extremely strong combination for web applications. Robi Sen gave a talk on using CF with mainframes. Apparently his company does quite a lot of work in this field and he talked about the issues they face and why CF works so well for them. I counted one person in the crowd that understood the mainframe issues he was addressing. -Matt ______________________________________________________________________ The KCFusion.org list and website is hosted by Humankind Systems, Inc.
