Dear all, I would like to propose new CF standard names for different emission sectors. It was agreed some time ago "that "emission" is a general term that includes sources located anywhere in the atmosphere, such as aircraft, and sources located at the earth's surface." The new gridded emission files which have been prepared for the IPCC AR5 simulations are subdivided into 12 emission sectors (see also Lamarque et al. 2010, www.atmos-chem-phys-discuss.net/10/4963/2010/ and, in more detail, ftp://ftp-ipcc.fz-juelich.de/pub/emissions/ancillary_data/IPCC_AR5_Emission_Sectors_v02.xls) and we would need specific standard names for them. (The issue was once raised by Martin Schultz - see Alison's mail from May 20 2009 15:06:26 +0100). I would therefore like to expand the "due_to_<process>" syntax with <process> = emission. For the moment, I'm proposing the expansion for carbon dioxide, only. Other species will follow.
