Dear Alison,

Thank you for your email.
Yes, the variable 'cloud_microphysics' is the sum of many processes
including evaporation/condensation. The processes included in the
variable 'cloud_microphysics' are as follows;

 condensation and evaporation
 homogeneous nucleation
 heterogeneous nucleation
 deposition and sublimation
 Bergeron Findeisen process
 riming
 acrretion
 aggregation
 icefall
 melting
 autoconversion

Please note that the above list is an example for one GCM 'MIROC5.0', and the processes in the list may be different in other GCMs depending on their modelling assuptions - I hope this will not be a problem when defining a standard name.
Our current idea is to recommend the project (CFMIP) participants to submit
model output 'cloud_microphysics', and also the list of processes included in
that variable.

Best wishes,
Tomoo

Dear Tomoo,

Thank you for your proposals for new cloud feedback standard names. I
agree that the wording of the names is fine. I assume that
'cloud_microphysics' is the sum of many of the processes such as
bergeron-findeison, heterogeneous and homogeneous nucleation, etc., but
does it also include evaporation/condensation for example? If you could
list which processes are included in cloud_microphysics that would be
very helpful for writing the definitions of the names.

Best wishes,
Alison
