Hello Glenn,
I am afraid "sea_surface_height_amplitude_due_to_earth_tide" won't fit your needs. Basically it is used to represent some tidal effects that one should remove to sea surface measurements from satellites. You can read more details on that topic here <http://earth.eo.esa.int/brat/html/alti/dataflow/processing/geophys_corr/ocean_tides_en.html> and in the Wahr (1985) paper here <http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/1985/JB090iB11p09363.shtml> . I remember we started a discussion on that topic a couple of months ago, where Jeff de La Beaujardière suggested the introduction of the quantity "water_surface_height_above_reference_datum". Perhaps it is quite close to what you need? Best regards, Olivier. I have noted the CF Standard Name "sea_surface_height_amplitude_due_to_earth_tide" and was wondering what this is supposed to represent, as the description is a little confusing to me.
