Dear Jonathan,

Surface reflectance is normalised: the surface reflectance
is derived for a given standardised view observation geometry.
Compared to this surface albedo is the integral of the BRDF over all
viewing and illumination directions of a hemisphere.
So our proposal for "surface_reflectance" remains:
Since they are distinct and well-defined, I agree they need different
standard names. I notice we also have an existing standard name
toa_bidirectional_reflectance
Perhaps yours should include "bidirectional" as well, for clarity and
consistency?
fine with me. Depending on how specific we shall be we may call it
"normalised_surface_bidirectional_reflectance" or just
"surface_bidirectional_reflectance".
We agree to introduce a new standard name. Our proposal is
"land_cover_lccs". The reference to the LCCS standard maintained by
FAO is http://www.fao.org/DOCREP/003/X0596E/X0596e00.htm .
Good. I think this is the right approach, but I'd suggest unlccs_land_cover
(or faolccs_land_cover) because
* "un" (or "fao") would indicate it is specific to a particular scheme.
* it resembles the existing name isccp_cloud_area_fraction.
Fine with me, too, to call it unlccs_land_cover.
Best regards,
Martin
