Dear Jonathan,

It is actually the pixel with the warmest brightness temperature as measured in a single IR band. Beyond that, I do not think that one could specifically identify it as SST, air temperature, etc.

Sincerely,

Gary

Dear Gary

The warmest temperature of what, I wonder? Does this mean SST or air
temperature, or some other temperature?

Best wishes

I would like to propose a new standard name,
tropical_cyclone_eye_temperature.

Dimensions: Celsius

Definition:

"tropical_cyclone_eye_temperature" means the warmest temperature
value in the eye region of a tropical cyclone
(0 - 24 km from the storm center) derived using the Advanced Dvorak
Technique, based on satellite observations.
