Nan,

I don't know whether we can set cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov to redirect to an offsite location.  If we can't, I'm sure we could redirect it to another LLNL web server which would instruct the user to "click here".

Probably the best url to point to would be cfconventions.org.   Presently it points to cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov, but Andrew Harwood will get that changed to redirect to the github site.

The "Quick Links" point to the latest non-draft version of the CF Conventions Document.  We'll need to do the same for standard names.  Before that, I'll see what I can do about the dead links to v26 of the standard name table.

Using the Trac system for web site issues is a good idea.  I'll create a new ticket for web site problems, rather than reopen one of the ones I've used for testing.

I'm cc-ing Matthew Harris, who has contributed more than me to the progress we've made so far.

Hi Jeff (and all) -

I know this is a big project, but just want to check that the old
URLs will eventually be forwarded to the new site. I've scanned
the email threads and haven't seen this, sorry if I missed
something obvious.

We're finally publishing an update to the OceanSITES specification,
and I'm checking the links in that document. Of course, at this point,
the link to the Standard Name table and the Conventions doc are
both broken - do we need to point to github, or not?

And, will the most recent version have an alias, or do we need to
point by version (e.g. cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov/documents/cf-standard-names/
will redirect somewhere like
github.com/cf-convention/cf-documents/blob/master/cf-standard-names/cf-standard-name-table-26.html)?

I don't seem to be able to get to the standard name table at all now.

Last, should we re-open the trac ticket ' test new installation' for the remaining
problems on the github site, or do you prefer email, or ... should we just
wait awhile? I DO appreciate how difficult this must be!

Thanks -
Nan

Yes, cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov has had major hardware problems recently and network security problems before that.

Matthew Harris and I have been working on a new web site to replace the cf-pcmdi one.  It is still under construction, but you can now get all versions of the CF Conventions document and you can get to the Trac issue-tracking system (which is hosted at a different LLNL machine, currently kitt.llnl.gov).  The url is
http://cf-convention.github.io

Presently the server is having difficulty with the html form of the CF Conventions document.  I may find a workaround today, but if I don't you can still get it in pdf form through an awkward but functional interface (click on "View Raw" to download).  That too should be improved in the near future.
