Hi John,

1) I don't think the CF conformance checker is that sophisticated, but Ros
please put me right if that's wrong.

2) That thought had occurred to us as has the possibility that it needs to
be per meter cubed and not per cubic meter. We'd have done some experiments,
but editing text in NetCDF files isn't that simple so we thought we'd ask first
and save some work.

3) My understanding is that the actual units including prefix are included
as the parameter variable in CF NetCDF and not the canonical units. Again,
please correct me if this is wrong.

Cheers, Roy.

Please note that I now work part-time from Tuesday to Thursday. E-mail
response on other days is possible but not guaranteed!

Subject: Re: [CF-metadata] UDUNITS error

3 progressively stupider questions, offered in hopes of provoking the right
answer:
- Perhaps depends on which standard name it's attached to?
- Are plural units allowed in the prefix?
- Why is the base mass unit kilogram, i.e., why does it already have a prefix?

If anyone has found a deep description of UDUNITS I'd love to know of it. So
far it seems like one has to study and do tests with the code to understand all
the details.

Dear All,

We're getting a CF conformance checker error on the units 'milligrams per cubic
meter'. Anybody know why it's wrong?

Cheers, Roy.
