Dear CF board, i would like to propose the following standard name:
standard_name: direct_normal_irradiance unit: Wm-2 Definition: "direct" means only the direct proportion of the irradiance (power of solar radiation per unit area incident on a surface) is considered without the diffuse component. "normal" means that the irradiance is calculated for a surface that is always held normal (or perpendicular) to the direct irradiance from the sun. This quantity is of particular interest to solar thermal installations and solar power installations that track the position of the sun. Direct Normal Irradiance is an established quantity in the solar energy community. Best regards, Uwe
