Dear Alison,
Thanks for adding the proposed names to the standard name table. This
means that they will be added at the next biannual update of the table?
Best regards,
Andreas

Dear Andreas and Jonathan,
I agree that these names look fine and are a sensible addition to the
standard name table. I think there is nothing contentious in these
proposals so they are accepted for publication in the standard name
table and will be added at the next update.
Best wishes, Alison

Subject: [CF-metadata] New standard names:
northward_land_ice_velocity and eastward_land_ice_velocity
Dear all,
I propose to add two new standard names for the northward and
eastward velocity components of land ice, equivalent to the already
existing standard names for sea ice.
standard name: northward_land_ice_velocity
Description:
A velocity is a vector quantity. "Northward" indicates a vector
component which is positive when directed northward (negative
southward). Land ice velocity is defined as a two-dimensional
vector, with no vertical component. "Land ice" means glaciers,
ice-caps and ice-sheets resting on bedrock and also includes
ice-shelves.
Canocical Unit: m s-1
standard name: eastward_land_ice_velocity
A velocity is a vector quantity. "Eastward" indicates a vector
component which is positive when directed eastward (negative
westward). Land ice velocity is defined as a two-dimensional
vector, with no vertical component. "Land ice" means glaciers,
ice-caps and ice-sheets resting on bedrock and also includes
ice-shelves.
Canocical Unit: m s-1
All comments are appreciated.
Thanks and best regards,
Andreas
