Dear Murray,

The whole point of these two aliases was to correct the accidental omission of
an underscore. I appreciate the issues that this causes for rigorous XML
parsing.

For a number of reasons, including support of data delivery systems based on
Linked Data, we have set up an alternative machine-readable (RDF) serving of
the Standard Names, that gets around these issues by reporting aliases using
'deprecated' and 'Replacedby' - aliases are now used by CF as a deprecation
mechanism. The back office of this system is maintained by CF to ensure exact
content synchronisation with the CF site.

If you want to take a look try:

http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P07/current/deprecated/ (aliased Standard
Names only)

http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P07/current/accepted/ (non-aliased Standard
Names)

http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P07/current/all/ (aliased plus non-aliased)

Cheers, Roy Lowry.

Please note that I partially retired on 01/11/2015. I am now only working 7.5
hours a week and can only guarantee e-mail response on Wednesdays, my day in
the office. All vocabulary queries should be sent to [email protected].
Please also use this e-mail if your requirement is urgent.

Subject: [CF-metadata] Invalid alias IDs in CF Standard Name Table v47

Just a note, if this hasn't already been noticed... in version 47 of the XML
version of
the CF Standard Name Table there are two alias IDs that mistakenly contain space
characters:

  <alias id="mole_fraction_of_chlorine monoxide_in_air">
    <entry_id>mole_fraction_of_chlorine_monoxide_in_air</entry_id>
  </alias>

  <alias id="mole_fraction_of_chlorine dioxide_in_air">
    <entry_id>mole_fraction_of_chlorine_dioxide_in_air</entry_id>
  </alias>

Cheers,

Murray
