Comment (by jonathan):

Enough support has been given to this ticket for it to be accepted
according to the rules, and there are no outstanding objections or
comments, so it is therefore concluded and should be included in the next
version of the CF standard. The changes to be made are as given in section
4.2 of Phil's text at the start of this ticket, as modified by [https
 ://cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov/trac/ticket/69#comment:53 comment 53].

Phil is already named as an additional author of the CF standard.

Both this ticket and [https://cf-pcmdi.llnl.gov/trac/ticket/80 ticket 80]
modify section 5.6 of the CF standard document. In addition, both tickets
refer to documents on the trac wiki. When the new CF version is compiled,
I suggest that we should label these documents clearly to indicate they
are "live" and should be treated carefully, though I don't think they need
to be maintained as part of the CF standard document, because the
information they provide is ancillary to the CF standard and derived from
 standards maintained by other authorities.

Thanks again for working on this, Phil.

 Jonathan
