What is meant by "original data" in the definition of the "source" attribute? 

The Convention states that this global attribute should be used for "The method 
of production of the original data. If it was model-generated, source should 
name the model and its version, as specifically as could be useful." If there 
is a sequence of models involved in generating data, e.g. Earth system model 
(ESM) --> regional climate model --> crop model, should that attribute always 
refer to the first in the chain, i.e. the ESM, or does "original" refer to the 
raw output of the crop model?
