I am sorry, I must not have been clear.  I meant that there are multiple states 
and they all come up multiple times in my database and I want to call each of 
them only once for my list.  Therefore, selecting them individually (as I have 
interpreted your "select distinct state") will not work.

I am assuming that there is some code that in laymen terms states:
Select State
>From Locations
if a state comes up more than once add first value to list and ignore the rest

Hope this clarifies my question.
