You could try underscores instead of dashes... That may be the issue...

When I did this(put the name in like you said)  it loaded ;) However, when I
submit the form, I get the error:


  Element NEWSLETTER is undefined in FORM.

Any thoughts on why it would not recognize the name in the form?
the code is:
<cfoutput>#FORM.newsletter-text-input#</cfoutput>
