Hi andrew any disadvantage to html5 I am totally free to use whatever.
People have been doing it for 20 years is part of the problem, most tutorials I find assume I am an expert, which in this area and java script i know nothing.I stayed away from javascript from my IE3 Netscape frustration of crossplatform incompatability.
