My experience with loadbalancing over the past three years is stay with a 
hardware solution.  Software solutions, like Microsoft Clustering, tend to 
be a pain in the rump.  It ties up more system resources on webserver.

The only exception is my SQL servers, I cluster two servers using Legato 
(software based).  Works like a champ.  No need for enterprise editions of 
NT or SQL.
