This probably will be no help to you, but we were receiving a similar error
using CFPOP. After much scouring of the CF-Talk archives I found a message
from Ben Forta asking for experiences of errors using CFMAIL and CFPOP. I
passed mine on and he replied that CF 4.5.1 SP2 had a fix for it. I
installed it on our development box last week and it did indeed solve the
problem. Don't know if it will help you, but I thought I'd put my 2 cents
in.

the only thing i have recently done is change the server that cf uses to
send mail..i have even tried changing it back to what i originally had it
set at...all to no avail...there is no code prob...checked it myself, but
