Greetings fellow CF enthusiasts, I am currently working on a problem we are facing with HP-UX and ColdFusion. In the coming months, we will be upgrading our web server to run HP-UX 11, upgrading from 10.20. This creates a paradox with ColdFusion. Let me explain. Our current setup is: A web server running HP-UX 10.20 ColdFusion Enterprise 4.01 for HP-UX on that same box In reading through documentation provided by Allaire and conversing with their tech. support staff, it has been made clear to me that ColdFusion 4.01 does not run on HP-UX 11. More appropriately, it has never been tested by Allaire and may not work, or require fixing after the OS is upgraded. Plus, according to the documentation for CF Enterprise 4.5.1 for HP-UX, it requires a minimum OS of HP-UX 11. Because we are somewhat short on resources, we do not have a proper testing environment to determine how CF 4.01 will work with HP-UX 11, if at all. So from what I have been able to gather, and my supervisor agrees, is that we have two options at our disposal: 1. Upgrade both the OS and CF at the same time. This, as many of you are surely aware, is a BAD THING. If something breaks after upgrading two products at the same time, tracking down what broke and who broke can be like finding a needle in a haystack. 2. Upgrade one at a time. Because of the system requirements, this dictates that HP-UX be upgraded first because CF 4.5.1 does not work on HP-UX 10.20. This could potentially lead to a loss of web application availability, though, because CF 4.01 does not work on HP-UX 11. So any time testing of the OS upgrade would mean time that web applications developed with CF are unavailable, which is simply not an option. I am looking for those of you out there who are running CF with HP-UX. I am beginning to wonder if we are the only HP-UX clients Allaire has. If any of you out there has words of advice or wisdom, or have experienced a similar paradox, please contact me, either through the list or privately. I appreciate any assistance that gain be gained from this list. Thank you.
