I'm suffering from the problem described in CF Knowledgebase
article 21664, which is, briefly, if you have NT4 with MDAC 2.6
installed, and you upgrade to CF5 and use SQL server 2000 for a
Policy Store ... Advanced security is broken. That is, you can't
administer Adv. Sec. through CF Admin. and you can't log on to
any Spectra Apps.

I'd like to revert to my Access database, smPolicy50.mdb, which
seems have been created by the upgrade (before the security
wizard kindly migrated me to sql2k), but since CF Admin is broken
this is presumably going to mean registry hacks etc.

Has anyone any idea how I might do this ?

Any other advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks, Andy

Background:

What happened to me was that I had done the CF5 upgrade and
was following tech note 21551 (CF5 upgrade security issues). The
net result of steps 5-8 was that I was thrown into the upgrade
wizard which offered to convert my Access smPolicy to SQL
Server, hence the problem.

I've already found a registry key that seems to name the Policy
Store datasource, but switching that to the Access datasource
made no difference, so I've switched back. It could be that this
might work in combination with another change ... e.g. the
migration wizard had about 12 steps including one to set the
"Policy Store Admin Password". Where did that get set ? Registry
and in the DB itself ?

Versions:

Windows NT 4 SP6a
SQL 2000
MDAC 2.6
CF 5

Possible courses of action:

1) Rollback to MDAC 2.5 SP1 (suggested by Macromedia). I'm
reluctant to do this as MDAC 2.6 was installed with SQL server
2000 so I'm sure there was a reason for this.

2) Swap back to the access database smPolicy50.mdb which
seems to have been created by the CF5 upgrade. This is my
preferred option.

3) Uninstall + reinstall the Advanced security option, followed by (a)
swapping in the converted smPolicy50.mdb, if possible or else (b)
re-installing Spectra.

4) Rebuild the box from scratch using Windows 2000. I'd very much
prefer to avoid this.
