A great deal of effort went into making 6.1 backwards compatible. On 11 sites
that I tested, by running the built-in code analyzer in 6.1, all the CF 5.0
sites worked perfectly. In only one site, 7 lines of code required changing to
become compatible with 6.1

I cannot really see a reason to run both. If you purchase the MX license, then
it is really easy to migrate all to the faster and more efficient MX platform.

Subject: How to upgrade to cfmx and continue on 5.0

| I just called Macromedia trying to get information on cfmx 6.1. I want
| to find out how to allow our existing clients to run both 5.0 and 6.1
|
| I spoke with the customer service who then forwarded me to pre sales.
| The guy at pre-sales made it clear that I couldn't ask any "how-to"
| questions. I could only ask yes or no questions. How small and petty
| is Macromedia? I have never heard anything so ridiculous in all my 15
| years in this business.
|
| What a policy. I want to purchase a product and need to know what my
| options are in a specific environment and they want to play charades!
|
| Anyway, what are the options for shared hosting to run CF 5.0 and
| CFmx6.1 . I would like to be able to offer our existing customers 5.0
| and the new 6.1 with out much administration in IIS. I heard once that
| both 5.0 and cfmx could co-exist on the same server as long as the
| page extension was cfm or cfmx. Has anyone tried this?
|
| I also, know that cfmx can run it's own web server. Is this the way to
| go? Or, is it possible to run cfmx on a separate server and access it
| from the 5.0 server?
|
| Thanks for anyone's assistance.
