There used to be a small NUKE CF application you could download and run to
completely remove any residues of previous installs that might be preventing
your new install from running........try reinstall of generic win2000, then
install of CFMX using tech notes to configure for IIS, use defragmenter on
you hard disc before this, check you have enough
non buggy memory...hope this helps.

I agree with you man. I nearly considered jumping ship since, hey I cant
even develop using their applications. I spent a good price, you think that
they could at least answer a few questions. .. I mean I am a growing web
design business that will probably spend 5 grand on software in the next
year. Where is that money going to go? From here, linux seems to be the only
solid web development platform you can count on that doesn't pull the rug
out from underneath you.
And check this, I have been "f" ed up by this problem since FEBRAURY. 2
threads.. try 30 or more. about 5 different forums. .. no one seems to have
an answer for me. Not like I am not trying myself. Somehow I have hobbled
forward. Boy would it be nice to just code the way "it should work"
Maybe next time MM, MAYBE NOT.

Steve,
there is no cable. As I said it's a stand alone development machine, not
connected to any network.
I use 127.0.0.1 (localhost) in IIS to see default web site and
127.0.0.1:XX
(XX=81,82, etc) to see the other sites (projects).
I have spent ONE MONTH installing, uninstalling and re-installing CFMX
in
this machine,
I have started 2 threads in CF Forums giving detailed info on the
problem,
I have searched everything in MM site (livedocs, technotes etc) and
there is
nothing about it.
and the only response in forums I had from MM side was:
- "MM technotes are the best in the market" .....
- "Ask for fee support"....
which means on a 700$ notebook to pay 500$ for installation support on
CF
developer edition (single IP).....
Many CFers have reported in Forums that CFMX has problems with Win 2000
SP3
and SP4
but as I see there is not official answear from MM team.
Any other ideas ????

Subject: CF 6.1 Installation on IIS problem - Please help !!!
Hardware : Notebook as developer machine, plenty of CPU and RAM. The
machine
is standalone not connected to any network.
Software : Win 2000 Server SP4, IIS 5.0
Whenever I try to install CF (MX, or 6.1) at the end of the
installation
I
get the mesage
-------------------------------------------------------
You have successfully completed the first step in installing
Macromedia
Coldfusion MX.
However, the web server connectors did not install successfully and
the
web
server and/or
website could not be reached on port 80. Possible reasons include a
blocked
port 51020, or the web server and/or website is not running or is
not
configured to listen on port 80 (in which case this is not an
error).
Please complete the following steps to complete the installation:
1) Consult the Installation Guide on how to manually configure the
web
server connector,
2) Ensure any firewall software blocking port 51020 is disabled,
3) Ensure the Coldfusion service is started,
4) Manually configure your web server connectors,
5) Confirm your web server and web sites are started, and
6) Continue your installation by logging in to the Configuration
Wizard
at
htt://localhost/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm
-------------------------------------------------------
Before the installation,
***************************
With netstat I checked that the needed ports are not blocked by
something.
All are free.
All resident software (firewall, antivirus, etc) were disabled.
IIS was installed and reinstalled many times with default settings
(no
restrictions in security.properties etc)
During installation
*************************
I asked to use IIS (only default web site)
In all my efforts I asked installation using all available choices,
eg
J2EE,
standalone server etc, but the above error mesage is always the
same.
After the installation
**************************
Coldfusion Service is running
IIS is running (serving only html and asp pages. no cfm pages)
Macromedia_ColdFusion_MX_InstallLog.log reports that everything
was
Successfull.
In IIS mappings no cfm, cfc etc. mappings exist.
Calling CF administrator page gives a 500 error (obvious because of
not
existing mappings).
I try to use IIS_connector.bat to fix the IIS connector and I get a
new
error message
------------------------------
Could not connect to any JRun/ColdFusion servers on host localhost.
Possible causes:
Server not running
- Start Macromedia JRun4 or ColdFusion MX server
Server running
- JNDI listen port in jndi.properties blocked by TCP/IP filtering
or
firewall on server
- host restriction in security.properties blocking communication
with
server
----------------------------
Nothing of these causes exist in my machine. As I said
- CF service is running
- No TCP/IP filtering, or firewall exist.
- No restrictions in security.properties exist in IIS.
Something more, maybe important
*******************************************
1. When I install CF with the built-in web server (no IIS)
everything is
ok
(no errors).
2. I have a second development machine, a desktop one. When I
install CF
(MX
or 6.1) in this machine I get the 1st error at the end of the
installation,
but then running IIS_connector.bat I connect to IIS with no problem
at
all.
My desktop development machine is identical to my notebook (same
software
being installed, same settings on everything, same running services
etc)
The only difference they have is that the desktop has Win 2000
Server
SP2
... while notebook has Win 2000 Server SP4.
I have tried everything. I have even uninstalled IIS and
re-installed it
again with default settings, and then re-installed CF. The errors
are
always
there.
I tried install CF 5.0 (this installation has no problem) and then
upgrade
to MX (the errors are again there).
In the past, I had tried to install CF MX (no 6.1) in a Win 2000
SP3...
and
I was getting error messages again.
In Coldfusion forums there are many threads about installation
problems
on
SP3 and SP4.
Any ideas ??????????? (before format my notebook....)
Thanks in advance for your help to all of you.
Tassos
