It is, like I said it is just Java. If you have a java enabled server and
your application language can access Java then you can use them.

Barney,

Well I was looking at a solution that didn't require CF in general, but it
sounds like it is more complicated than I was thinking.

I was only wondering if it was possible to achieve if there was another way
to add the functionality of gateways, without upgrading to CF and allowed
for other scripting languages to also leverage of it, not just CF.

Using the CFCProxy stuff that was supposed to be included in 7.0.1
(don't know if it actually was), it would be straightforward to
synthesize. Just set up your Java listeners as needed, and then have
them use the CFC proxy to invoke methods on your CFCs as needed. Not
a particularly complex setup in theory, though you'd need to create a
way to manage instance of the gateways from the CF (i.e. CF admin),
because they'd need to run in the same JVM as CF is running in.

Obviously the details are more complex than that, but from a high
level, that's about it. However even if it's no more complex than
that, I can't imagine it's worth the $$ to do it yourself and
sacrifice the extras (expertise, support, formal testing, etc) that
Macromedia provides with CF Enterprise.

cheers,
barneyb
