It's easy to feel like a rat in a maze, but you've got to narrow the problem 
down.
Does the CPU or memory max out, for instance.

I would certainly suggest moving each item of the system to its own box, if 
you have enough bits.
You also want to go through the log files for each sub-system with a fine 
tooth comb. Look out for stack dumps, for instance.

What version of Windows is this ? Knowing the answer may help someone.
Depending on the size and urgency of the problem, you may want to see if Adobe 
will help you out for a few hundred bucks.
