Java and CF play nice, there's no denying that. However, there are limitations, and they are software limitations (the 1.8 GB heap limit, for example). There are plenty of resources that discuss server memory optimization. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of documents out there that explore the limits, strecths and pitfalls of clustering such as you're discussing. Rather, I should say that I haven't discovered any more than a couple, and I have looked on several occasions.
Here are some helpful links: http://devnulled.com/content/2005/09/coldfusion-mx-tuning-and-clustering -roundup/ (great page) http://www.adobe.com/devnet/coldfusion/j2ee/articles/endtoend.html http://www.petefreitag.com/item/89.cfm Hopefully someone else has some more to offer you. The powers that be here are trying to do a few nutty things. One, they want to run multiple instances of CF off of one instance of JRun (same cluster setup from earlier). Two, they want to combine the CF and Java app hosting into one server (cluster). Now the Java apps seem to do a good bit of processing on their own servers right now, and not like the we've just got a couple of itsy-bitsy CF apps either. Are there resources out there (other than the docs) that talk about optimum setups and what can and can't be good bed fellows (anyone have a CF architecture dissertation handy)?
