you can poll it with a sql query every x minutes and send an email to a
pager by using a cfml template, exception handling and cfmail. If a known
query doesn't return a proper result, throw an error. If there is a database
exception throw an error.... -Sean

Is there any way to identify if the Database is down?  This is separate from
an invalid query or the like.

We are using CF 4.0 on a Sybase database.
