Hi Eric,

Do you have any experience with the UML? It's an object design model that
I've found useful for a lot more than software...

Check out http://www.uml-zone.com/ - I would never suggest that anyone learn
the whole thing (I certainly couldn't) but the object philosophy works
extremely well for information mapping.

Subject: (WOT) Information Roadmaps

Again ... because you guys are always helpful. and this is the only REAL
list I belong to. You get my questions ...

I am extremely bad for having half thoughts ... problems with thinking like
that ... is of course the second half.

What I am thinking about is creating an "information roadmap" for our
organization. We are an all cargo airline. This roadmap will serve many
functions.

Does anybody do anything like this now? Can you recommend any good online
reading? Examples? whatever?

The first step in my information roadmap is to define the key documents, the

information sources that build the document, the document creators, and
distribution. And identify any workflow processes associated. Database
requirements. Analysis. etc.

Simple example. (also I have a problem with the granularity, this roadmap
can become infinitely complex if you let it, the key is to make it simple).

Key Documents: planning
Projected Aircraft Schedule (aircraft utilization, stations, times)
Projected Crew Schedules (journey assignments, standby)

Key Documents: Flight Day
Final Aircraft and Crew Schedule

Key Documents: Flight
Contact datasheet
Runway Analysis
Preliminary Flight Plan (6hrs before flighttime)
Preliminary Weather Forecast (6hrs before flighttime)
Final Flight Plan (at flighttime)
Final Weather Forecast (at flighttime)

Key Documents: Flight: Preflight per station
Loadsheet
Weight and Balance
Pilot Notification Form
Fuel Receipts
Decing Receipts

Key Documents: Flight: PostJourney
Flight Log Sheet
Flight Log Detail
Operational Irregularity Report(s) (if any)
Flight Synopsis
Aircraft Maintenance Logsheet

Basically these are the key documents associated with a particular flight
day. (Believe it or not, there is more)

I want to graphically represent the creation and distribution of this
information, dbase and traditional filing, highlight analysis etc.

Sounds clear. hmmm, but for some reason, I am still having trouble biting on

what I really want to produce. Any insight is appreciated.

Feel free to contact me offlist at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Any airline people on this list?
