On the website we are preparing for a client we need to
allow site users to enter a valid URL that points to an image file, then
redisplay that image in a Secure Page. The page is secure with standard SSL
settings. This works fine when using Internet Explorer but fails miserably
in Netscape Navigator (sometimes causing Netscape to crash). When Netscape
attempts to access one of the secure pages (https) that contains one of the
unsecured image URLs (http) it will prompt the site user to view both
unsecured and secure information just as IE does. Even if you agree to view
both secure and unsecured data only a strange image link is seen where the
image should be (provided the browser doesn't crash totally). The new image
link is labeled, "internal-icon-insecure." The IMG SRC in the resulting
View Source of the page shows the correct URL.
The question is then "Is there a way to have Netscape show
un-secure images in a secure page without replacing the image with this
strange image link?"
