I get that problem as well.  For me, it was getting the file listings quickly
under Win98 but after installation of Win 2000, the access times dropped to a
crawl.  The odd thing is, it's only slow accessing listings on my local drive.
When I'm working on a network drive, the speed is nice and fast.
