I've worked with the first two, and prefer SilkPerformer. However, you might
want to evaluate all of them to your own satisfaction - they're all very
expensive, and you might prefer another. All three meet the minimum
requirements for an effective load testing tool; they all make it easy to
build scripts, run the scripts using multiple machines as clients, and
retrieve easy-to-understand results. SilkPerformer is the most mature of the
three, and is more expensive than RSW's e-Load.
In any case, each vendor will allow you to evaluate their products; you
won't be able to get enough users to do real load testing, but you'll be
able to see how each works. When you're spending that much money, it's worth
your while to try all the alternatives.
Finally, if you're not going to do this all the time, you might consider
outsourcing load testing. No matter what tool you get, there will be a
considerable learning curve, especially if you try to use it for anything
beyond simple stress testing; if you're interested in building a capacity
planning matrix, you'll have a lot of work to do. There are plenty of
companies with expertise in that kind of stuff, including Fig Leaf Software
and many others.
