I've been doing load testing for the last two weeks. And yesterday
we decided to exchange our Ultra 10's for NT solutions. Our application
causes cfserver to hit 100% CPU usage extremely fast, and can barely
handle 2 simultaneous users on our Solaris boxes. Granted, an Ultra10S
isn't Sun's power server. But at the same time the kind of processing
power you can buy on a Wintel platform for the same money is drastic. So
we went with a Quad PIII-600/512Meg Ram. Cold Fusion is also just plain
faster on NT, as it was originally designed for it. There's no doubt
that NT is the way to go on 4.0. We testeed 4.5 for Solaris, it holds up
better under high load, but was still choking eventually. Mind you, this
case is for our application where ** EVERYTHING ** is database driven,
lay out of the pages, drop down options in forms, graphics being used,
etc... We developed a portal basically, and all the CF functions we
call take their toll on the CPU. We don't have the budget to powerup our
Sparcs, so we had to settle for a trade (with our IT dept).
