It's because the list server is not allowing MIME-encoded messages to be
left intact (because of script virii).  What is happening is that the MIME
encoded message is being stripped of some MIME associated headers so you are
seeing plain text renditions of the MIME encoding.

Mail from those of us who send plain text messages looks "normal"
