Tell me about being a pain! Actually the Excel ODBC looks at about the first
10-12 rows and decides... but as I've said on the other email, it's an Text
or Number situation, if it's text it ignores all numbers, and the same the
other way around.

The problem with getting Access to import the data is that it's a 3Mb file,
with (currently) over 7,500 rows, and continually growing - this is their
(effective) client database which needs to be updated on-line every day or
so (for their websites), so it's got to be as seamless as possible - and
with the speed of Access' import, it'd probably take a few minutes to import
that size of file, during which time, the client could run the on-line
"import new items" routine, which means that it wouldn't take all of the new
information.

I could run this, and tell them that after they have FTPed the file up, they
run the first stage import, leave it 30 minutes (to guarantee the Access
import) and then run the second stage - they are impatient enough already!

The more I use Micro$oft MDAC, the more I hate it's quirks.
